For the Outdoor Climbing Beginner

Not long ago, most people had their first rock climbing experience on real Lake District rock, but these days it’s much more likely to be on an indoor wall like those at Keswick, Penrith and Carlisle! If you’ve had enough of climbing indoors on plastic holds and spluttering on the chalk dust; why not make the transition outdoors?  It’s not as daunting as you might imagine. At Keswick Mountain Adventures we’ve designed a range of outdoor climbing courses specifically for the competent indoor climber looking to move their rock climbing adventure outside.

The Trad Climbing Course You’ve Been Looking For!

Learning to climb outdoors on our fantastic Lake District classic rock climbs takes you out on some of the most spectacular crags in the country. For the most part this is a trad climbing course with a low student to instructor ratio which will give you the most mileage and learning opportunities from an action packed day. You’ll find yourself climbing some wonderful single and multi pitch routes in and around the Lake District. Depending on weather and inclination we may also use some of the bolted sport climbing venues that are now an integral part of the Lake District climbing scene.

You will also get your hands on a range of climbing hardware whilst following a climber who has led the routes on leader placed protection so you’ll know your rocks from your wallnuts and your cams from your hex’s. This is some of the best training for climbers who want to move the needle on their sense of adventure. By the end of the day you will have a sound understanding of anchor selection and belay techniques and knowledge of what makes the outside world so different.

Keswick Mountain Adventures expert instructors will take the worry out of your transition to the outdoor climber and open up an endless horizon of great climbing opportunities for you to enjoy.
